Nurburgring, Germany

This was the only picture I took on the Saturday! A very quick snap on the camera phone at one of the viewing points around the Nurburgring.

In the bottom third of this map you can see Nurburg and 3 red boxes all very close together. Our hotel was somewhere between the town of Nurburg and those red boxes :o )

The Nurburgring attracts a lot of people on it’s ‘open days’ and there were lots of fantastic cars and motorbikes. I had a little trip to the first viewing point in a Lotus that had come along with us, they look and sound very nice but aren’t as comfortable as the Roadster :o )

I enjoyed the 2nd viewing point we went to as some of the drivers had obviously driven here a lot and it was fun to watch them screeching round the corners :o )

We did have to laugh at a car that appeared around the top of the hill and suddenly pulled over onto the grass…most of the time this is due to an accident (they are a very frequent occurence here) but, this wasn’t an accident! A guy jumped out of the car and managed to reach the barrier where he appeared to throw up for a few minutes before getting back in his car! As he drove past the crowd at the viewing point we were at he received a very big cheer which he seemed to appreciate!!

I didn’t go around the track myself, I managed to eventually find the courage but by that point the only person I felt safe going round with had decided he didn’t want to risk another go…the weather had cleared up and with it had brought some rather ‘dangerous’ drivers!

For those of you who fancy watching a lap of ‘The Ring’ this is a video taken by MBF

The driver is a Roadster owner who lives in the Netherlands, he popped over to see us and took MBF and another guy from our group out in a vauxhall astra. S (the driver) has done over 700 laps of the Nurburgring so the guys were shown how it’s supposed to be done!!

In the evening MBF and I took a little ride out and found the most fantastic windy road, it really was beautiful! I am not a big car fan but this road just ‘felt’ good…not sure if you’ll understand what I mean! The views were also fantastic! It seemed the hills/mountains stretched on for miles!

Once we got back to the hotel the boys hit the bar where much drink was consumed, food was eaten and the ‘hardcore’ drivers practiced their driving skills around the nurburgring…on a playstation!
